Tying and Fishing Minnow Doubles
written by: John McBride
If you think about it, you will never see minnows swimming alone.
Tie a matching pair of your favorite Clouser type minnows using a lead
substitute as an underbody on the front one, attach the other one about five
inches behind with a leader of monofilament and when you tie the rear one use
some foam for the underbody. (Cover the lead substitute and foam bodies with
floss, or yarn.)
Fish with short strips while raising the rod tip, and let fall as you lower
rod tip.
This will make the front/heavy minnow dart up, and the rear/floating minnow
will slow down the fall of both.
This darting/swimming action is more realistic than a lone minnow swimming true,
and level (Like most I have seen who fish these patterns!).
Try this out compared to your usual lone minnow pattern fishing, you will
be surprised! Double hookups are very common.
Tie up a few, and just try them on Bluegills, you will see for yourself how
much more action you get.
I have never tried this system on saltwater, so If it works for you on big
salty fishing please let me know.
